In Galway, there is always something happening and it is a hive of activity throughout the year. If you have a love for sport Galway is the perfect place to visit for Horse racing, Connacht Rugby, Galway FC games or Galway GAA games.

Rugby

Connacht Rugby is based in Galway City at the Galway Sportsground on College Road. They are the professional team for the province. Galwegians RFC and Galway Corinthians RFC are two amateur rugby teams based in Galway city.

Golf Courses

Galway has many Golf courses including Galway Golf Club, Galway Bay Golf, Bearna Golf Club and Cregmore Golf Club.

Hurling and Gaelic football

Pearse Stadium in Salthill is the home of both Hurling and Gaelic football. The Galway hurling team compete annually for the Liam Mc Carthy cup in the All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. They have won the cup a total of 4 times in their history.  The Galway Gaelic football team compete for the Sam Maguire cup in the All Ireland Senior Football Championship. Galway Senior football team have won the Sam Maguire a total of 9 times, the last time being in 2001.

Soccer

Galway United home is Eamonn Deacy Park on Dyke Road and play in the League of Ireland Premier Division.

If you like a game of tennis, The Galway Lawn Tennis Club is the home of tennis in Galway and is located in Salthill. Other facilities include badminton and squash.

Sailing and Rowing

Sailing and Rowing are very popular sports in Galway. There are mostly played and practiced on the River Corrib and clubs include Galway Rowing Club, Tribesmen Rowing Club, NUIG Boat Club and many more.

Swimming

Leisureland complex has a 25m pool in Salthill. Many clubs use it to train there including Galway Swimming Club, Shark Swimming Club and Laser Swimming Club. NUIG also has a 25m pool locatedon its campus.
